NEW AND INTERESTING BEETLE (COLEOPTERA)
RECORDS FROM PORTUGAL (6TH NOTE)
José Manuel Grosso-Silva1 & Jacinto L. Diamantino2

Acanthocnemidae Crowson, 1964
? Acanthocnemus nigricans (Hope, 1845)
MATERIAL EXAMINED: Boticas: Beça (29TPG01), 29-07-1999 (1,
Ernestino Maravalhas leg.).
COMMENTS: Third Portuguese locality; previously recorded from
Anta (Sabrosa, 29TPF16) (Barros, 1913; Fuente, 1931) and very
recently from Quinta do Fragusto (Guarda, 29TPE3377) (Grosso-
Silva, 2005a).
TOPONYMIC NOTE: Regarding the first Portuguese locality mentioned,
a clarification is needed: “Anta” (the name presented by
Barros and Fuente) is not an abbreviation or simplification of S.
Martinho de Anta as supposed by Alonso Zarazaga et al. (2003)
(who wrote “[São Martinho de] Anta” when citing Fuente’s work)
but a small village located roughly 2 km to the northwest of S. Martinho
de Anta proper.
